I’ve been doing a little research on different indie/individual-based retailers and I’m not sure on who feels “best” for me, yet. From what I gather nothing is stopping me from using multiple sources. I might pick a few, but I doubt using everything under the sun is more reward than it’s worth.
The main contenders I’m considering are (not really in order of preference):
So I was curious if there was anyone who’s done business with these sites or OTHER retailers they could give suggestions? Whether you’re a buyer or seller, what site do you prefer and why? The biggest concern I generally have is keeping rights to my designs, but unless I skipped over some fine print all of these sites provide that.
I’m aware of The Yetee and other daily-t-sites, but I was looking for something that I can just host a general store at. I may try out those kind of sites too just to see if I have any luck at it, however. I may consider providing my own prints (well, for some smaller sizes. I have a fairly high quality printer that can do some nice work), but other merchandise I dunno if I could handle hand-making myself.
In other news...
I’ve been looking for work. I had a couple interviews last week and haven’t heard back yet, but intend to call Monday with high hopes. Regardless, it’s only part time work, so I need to start pulling more weight to keep up with current finances. Local areas are only hiring full-time if you’re qualified for management positions or if you want to be a truck driver it seems. Blagh. :b
So with that said... I’m wanting to do experimental speed-paints at a flat rate of $50 per piece. They’d be single character, leaning towards artistic freedom (with a general premise/mood request given, sure), and likely only half body/portraits. The quality would be aimed at somewhere like the recent YCH I did, albeit the character may be a bit more painty/smudgy, I want to play with different ways to do textures.
The piece/example in question:
